Twelve Hour Passage

This piece is a visual manifestation of time through the accretion of materials. The individual thread represents the time and energy spent to make the piece. Through a gradual buildup over a twelve hour period, the glass thread creates layers of information and memory. The making process involves spinning the metal frame at a rapid speed on a turntable after a gather of glass is flung onto the frame.

This piece is an exploration of social currency as the process relies on the currency of other people’s time. It is an orchestration of time, speed, other people in the community. The bodily resources are exchanged in this doorway sized-glass monument, which is larger than the body of almost all people.
