“Take it All in”

Wearable Glass Device, Performance, 2020

“Take it All in”

I wanted to create a device that appears to amplify the senses while also putting the wearer in a state of vulnerability. I’m inspired by early hearing devices such as ear horns, and I was interested in making a device that appears to affect every sense. At the moment we are so concerned with protection and covering up, and I wanted to create a device to do the opposite- to permit easy access to every facial orifice. (There’s even nose funnels if you look closely.) This allows the wearer to sensorily engage with every aspect of of their physical location, while exposing them to potential risk. In a public setting, wearing the device suggests a heightened state of danger and contamination— but in a natural setting like the beach it allows the wearer to “take it all in.”
